For those of you who haven't gone all out for the trendy bob (including myself - it took me years to get it this long; I'm not hacking it off now), a big style on the streets is the high bun. As in, a messy bun on the top of your head. The look has been seen recently all over Europe and Asia. This fall, keep it high on your head and low on maintenance.
I'd noticed this look previously on Sarah Jessica Parker in the role of Carrie Bradshaw on Sex and the City, but I spotted it on more recent style radar on the trend website Refinery29.
The high bun is perfect for hot days and for any type of hair - straight, curly, bangs, no bangs - so long as it's long enough to knot at the top of the head. I find the look effortlessly chic, a look ideal for the brave and the lazy fashionista.

The high bun certainly isn't a look for the club or a first date, but it's a perfect hairstyle for running errands in the heat or for keeping your long hair out of your way in class. All you need is a no-snag hair band. Flip your head over, bunch hair up at the top of your head, and fasten into a bun. The style can be as neat or as messy as you like. No product is required, but I like to blow dry my hair while spritzing in my favorite hairspray, blasting the roots and scrunching the ends for maximum volume.
If you do decide to take this look to evening, gain some inspiration from MIss Bradshaw -- I couldn't find the exact Carrie photo I was looking for, but Google did offer me this one from her engagement with Aiden:

I was sure that this style wouldn't look good on me but surprisingly it looks better than a bun in back--less severe.
i feel like this isn't really a new trend. its always been an alternative when i'm too lazy to fix it.
